Construction and building materials

The construction and building material industries have seen great changes over years to shorten the construction period and to comply with the new requirements from users and regulatory authorities.

Structural elements are normally no longer made or cast in situ but are instead assembled using prefabricated components and large cranes. In addition, almost complete modules including sanitary and electric installations are used. New types of auxiliary equipment such as scaffolds and formworks have also been important factors. The demand for increased comfort and lowered operational costs is contributing to the same trend as to building materials. Some examples are the progress of thermal and sound insulation, window frames and panes, wallboards, and roofing.

Despite this the number of patents and patent applications involved are relatively modest. One reason is the fact that such changes are not resulting from prefabricated element, for instance, but the advent of suitable cranes. Another circumstance is caused by restricted knowledge and understanding of the patent system. Briefly spoken, patents are even available for modifications solving specific problems.

The complexity of the field is calling for varied qualifications and our consultants including a construction engineer are capable of handling all such matters.
