18/03/2008 Zacco acquires Amsterdam-based intellectual property specialist Shield Mark

Zacco strengthens its presence in Benelux and acquires Amsterdam-based intellectual property specialist Shield Mark.

The Zacco Group, Scandinavia’s leading intellectual property consultancy, today announces an agreement to merge with Shield Mark, an Amsterdam based agency.

Thereby, the Zacco Group gets on site representation in the most important region of Europe housing offices like the European Patent Office in the Haag, the Court of First Instance and the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg.

According to Zacco’s CEO Hans-Bertil Håkansson, the decision to acquire Shield Mark is part of Zacco’s business strategy for the future.

”The European single market is from a legal point of view a reality, and eventually this is going to become a practical reality also with respect to IP Services and Zacco wants to move from being a regional Scandinavian player to become a European player with global reach by being active in the restructuring of the European IP service market,” says Hans-Bertil Håkansson.

For Shield Mark, the agreement means that they add patent services to their core business which will make it possible to add value to the current and future clients.

”To be part of the Zacco Group is an exciting opportunity for us,” says Bas Kist, one of the founders of Shield Mark.

Shield Mark will keep its name for the time being. Local management will be headed by Alice Slabbaert.

The acquisition is financed through shares and cash.
