About Erik Nilsson

Erik Nilsson has three decades of professional experience in intellectual property, in particular patents. For a total of nineteen years, Erik headed IP departments in Swedish and US owned tech companies. He started out as a patent attorney in private practice and has since worked as a consultant, manager, director, and in the foundation of a new IP consultancy business. He has also managed large scale patent conflicts. His current engagement is mainly in patent drafting and prosecution, portfolio management, and practical approaches to IP strategy and the doing of business with IP as a support or an object of transaction.

Erik is a Royal Institute of Technology graduate in Engineering Physics, an Electronics and Telecom Engineer, and an Authorized Swedish Patent Attorney. The early career was in electronics engineering and silicone design. He has worked extensively with inventions and patents in the microwave fields of telecom and radar, including associated systems, antennas, mechanics, interfaces, modularity, energy management, sensors, materials, software, safety, GUI, AI, and manufacturing. His deliveries also included IP strategies and policies, patent portfolio development, patentability and freedom to operate assessments, IP committee leadership, procurement support including sourcing of outside counsel teams, licensing preparation and negotiation, trade secret management, invention mining and brainstorming sessions, inventor rights assessment and bonus schemes, IP accounting and cost tracking, archiving routines and structures, invention and patenting training.

Erik says you are always right to expect us to explain intellectual property understandably to you – regardless of complexity – without losing nuances that might matter to your business.
