Arla Foods is a global dairy company and a coorporative association owned by dairy farmers across seven countries in Northern Europe. With more than 17,000 employees, Arla Foods have production facilities in 13 countries and sales offices in an additional 20 countries.
The company roots back to the 1880s when the first corporative dairies where founded in Sweden and Denmark respectively. In 2000 Arla Foods was founded through a merger between the Danish MD Foods and the Swedish Arla.
Today the company is a global player with many strong brands which have to be protected and handled across the world.
For more than a decade – since 2007 – Arla has had its trademark department outsourced to Zacco.
The global trademark portfolio of Arla consist of more than 10,000 registrations across the globe – in around 120 countries. A portfolio of this size requires more than a mere client-advisor relationship. The relationship today between Arla and Zacco is a close, full-service collaboration with a strong focus on communication and a continuous exchange of information about the business development.
At Zacco a designated team of highly-qualified trademark attorneys, paralegals and administrators handles all IP related back-office tasks and administration allowing the in-house attorney at Arla to focus on internal development, brand strategy, M&A, marketing activities and similar.
“Through outsourcing, we have managed to focus more on IP strategy to create and implement a global IP policy. It has made the business aware of the importance of IP as well as when to involve IP expertise, both in-house and within the outsourced department. The accomplishments we are reaching are just as much the Zacco team’s credit as it is mine.”
