Bent has worked with IP since 1996. He drafts and prosecutes patent applications and defends and opposes patents in opposition proceedings, including appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office. He is well-versed with patent law and practice in the USA and China as well. He prepares/conducts novelty searches, freedom-to-operate investigations, validity opinions, IP due diligence on both buyer and seller sides, and other types of analyses, to reveal and advise about IP-related risks and solutions to mitigate risks. He stays updated on law changes and practice developments and is a frequent lecturer.
Bent re-joined Zacco after a few years as an in-house Director IP for a large hearing aid manufacturer. He gained valuable insights into a modern project organisation that brings complex products to a competitive market.
Bent strategizes with IP and advises on how to protect inventions in view of a relevant business context, on how to build a high-value intellectual property portfolio (IP) with assets supporting the business and on how to minimise/mitigate business risks. He is one of the founders of I3PM (International Institute for IP Management).
Throughout his career, Bent has worked with software-related inventions and also works proficiently in and across various other technical fields, e.g., in electronics and mechanics. In particular, he has in-depth experience in technical fields related to AI/machine learning, software, electronics and signal processing.
Bent graduated from Technical University of Denmark in 1996 based on a B.Sc. thesis in opto-electronics supplemented by a M.Sc. thesis in machine learning. In 2007 he graduated with a legal master, LL.M., degree in IP management from Université Robert Schuman in Strasbourg. He is a European Patent Attorney and most recently a registered litigator before the Unified Patent Court, UPC.
