Sofia joined Zacco in 2017 and has worked with IP since 2006. She is a European Patent Attorney, an Authorized Patent Attorney (Sweden) and a Team Manager within Zacco. She advises and assists local and international clients on strategic planning within the IP field and works in close collaboration with the client to manage and optimize their IP rights. This includes all aspects of patent prosecution, such as novelty searches, freedom-to-operate searches, drafting and prosecution of patent applications, as well as dealing with appeals and opposition, in Sweden, Europe and internationally. Sofia also advises clients on invention evaluation and patent strategies, and assists in legal processes involving patents. Sofia works mainly in the fields of medical devices and systems, which includes mechanics, electronics, biomaterials and chemistry, but also has experience from working with the forestry industry, manufacturing industry and biotechnology.
Sofia graduated with a Master of Science in Molecular Biology from Stockholm University in 1994, and a PhD. in Cell Biology from Stockholm University in 2001. She thereafter worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Karolinska Institute for five years, within the field of molecular biology and lipid metabolism. In 2006 she started as a patent engineer at Radi Medical Systems AB in Uppsala, and after a sale of the company to St. Jude Medical, advanced to the position of Patent Manager. Before joining Zacco, Sofia worked for five years at another IP firm as a patent attorney and a team manager.
Sofia is ranked as a recommended individual in the IAM Patent 1000 ranking for 2019.
Sofia is a member of the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office (EPI), the Association of IP Professionals in Swedish Industry (SIPF), and the Association of Swedish Patent Attorneys (SPOF).
