Szonja is a European Patent Attorney and UPC representative with almost a decade of experience in intellectual property. Szonja provides IP services to clients working in the chemical and biotechnological industries having expertise in organic, biological and inorganic chemistry, with a particular focus on pharmaceutical inventions, chemical biology, small molecule drugs, polymers as well as protein/peptide chemistry. She has worked with international chemical and biotech companies and research institutions.
Szonja’s practice covers all aspects of patent law, including patent drafting and prosecution, as well as Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) analyses, validity and infringement opinions, and IP strategy development. She also has experience in participating in both written and oral opposition and appeal proceedings at the EPO.
Szonja graduated in 2015 with a BSc Honours in Chemistry with medicinal chemistry from the University of Glasgow and earned her MSc in Medicinal chemistry in 2017 at the University of Copenhagen. Szonja also holds a Certificate on Patent Litigation in Europe (CEIPI/University of Strasbourg, France).
Throughout her studies, she worked as a student assistant at a small, boutique IP firm in Denmark where she began to learn about IP and she later joined another leading Danish IP firm where she gained her EPA qualifications.
Szonja joined Zacco in 2025 and is a member of ADIPA (Association of Danish Intellectual Property Advisors).
