Zacco welcomes our new Global Sales Lead Patents Niclas Uggla

6 October 2025

It is with great pleasure that we extend a warm ‘welcome back’ to Niclas Uggla, who rejoins Zacco today in his new role as sales lead for our global patent practice. He will split his time between our offices in Stockholm and Uppsala, when he isn’t travelling to meet with clients and colleagues.

Returning to Zacco with 30 years of experience within patents

Niclas draws on a wealth of experience developed over 30 years as a patent attorney, both in-house counsel and in IP law firms. He started his patent career as a patent engineer in 1995 at Ericsson in Stockholm and has always been keen to explore new opportunities wherever they emerged, resulting in an exciting career across technology and innovation. He spent a few years in private practice and, while working at an IP law firm in Uppsala, he discovered an opening to join a battery manufacturer in Gavle as their CTO.  Later, he returned to private practice and joined Zacco (for the first time) in 2015, spending seven years as a senior European patent attorney at the Uppsala office. In 2022, he joined Heart Aerospace where he had the possibility to work at the cutting edge of electric aviation, a field that would have remarkable environmental impact.

Looking forward to the new role as sales lead for patents

What pulled him back to us was the outlook of shaping the entirely new role as sales lead for the patent practice across the whole of Zacco. Instead of drafting and filing patents, Niclas says he will focus on supporting the patent business with sharing insights from the industry and giving access to his vast network. “I have always considered Zacco to be the leading IP firm in Scandinavia, and I am thrilled to rejoin this group of supreme subject matter experts.” Niclas remarks. “While working in the industry, I regularly used Zacco’s patent services, not the least the valuable search reports from the Indian team whose members are extremely reliable and talented.”

As a resource for client meetings and commercial outreach, he will aim to bridge the patent gap between what product-focused clients are looking for, and how IP consultants can use their expertise to make it a reality: “Always remember that ‘pretty patents’ don’t carry any value for the client if they do not protect the product.” In his new role, Niclas sees the asset management portal IPview as an important resource, and a reason for clients to move all their intellectual property work to Zacco, and he is looking forward to explaining the advantages of an IP360 perspective to decision makers.

CCO Magnus Ljungdahl comments: “We couldn’t wish for a better candidate to take on this vital role within our commercial team! Niclas is exactly the right person in the right position, and I look forward to his contribution across his whole spectrum of expertise in developing this newly created role in the most effective way possible.”

Let’s accomplish great things together, Niclas!
