What is a vulnerability scan?
A vulnerability scan is an automated security check in which a tool scans computers, servers, networks or applications to identify known weaknesses. The scanning tool identifies systems and software versions and compares them with databases of known vulnerabilities. Each identified vulnerability has a ‘criticality vector’ (CVSS) that contains information about how serious the vulnerability is and under what conditions it may be exploited.
